Costume Parade

Cultural Awareness Celebration at Bennett-Kew

At Bennett-Kew, we are proud to honor and embrace our community's diverse cultural traditions through a unified celebration that highlights the joy of reading and cultural expression. This year, our celebration will combine Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), Halloween, and Día de los Muertos—all in one exciting and meaningful day!

📚 Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)

As part of our commitment to literacy and lifelong learning, we’re excited to celebrate Reading Is Fundamental, a national program that promotes the importance of reading for all children. Every student will receive a free book to take home, encouraging a love of stories and learning. To add fun and creativity, children are invited to dress up as their favorite book character, making reading come alive through imagination and costume!

🎃 Halloween Parade

In the spirit of fun and community, students will also take part in a Halloween costume parade around the school. This is a time-honored tradition that encourages creativity, self-expression, and joy. Children may wear age-appropriate costumes that are fun and festive (non-scary and school-friendly). It’s a wonderful way to see students light up as they celebrate together.

💀 Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

We will also honor the rich Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, a cultural celebration that remembers and honors loved ones who have passed away. As part of this, our school will feature:

  • Decorated altars (ofrendas) with photos, flowers, and traditional items.

  • Sugar skull art projects created by students.

  • Storytelling and music that reflect the meaning and joy behind this beautiful tradition.
