Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) – Costume Parade, Trunk or Treat, and Día de los Muertos Community Event

Bennett-Kew’s annual Costume Parade, Trunk or Treat, and Día de los Muertos celebration is a family-friendly event where families decorate their car trunks and hand out both candy and free books for children to enjoy. Held in the Bennett-Kew basketball area, this event offers a safe, festive alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Children can collect treats, choose a book and bookmark to take home, and enjoy decorated trunks with creative themes—ranging from spooky designs to favorite characters.

This event strengthens community ties in a fun, well-lit, and organized environment, especially helpful for families in areas where education is priority.

By partnering with Bennett-Kew and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF),  PTA, and community organizations aim to address literacy challenges. Over 25 million children in the U.S. struggle with reading, impacting their future opportunities. Through events like this, we help connect children to the joy of reading—offering them not just candy, but books that open doors to learning, growth, and lifelong success.
